The Wreck of MH370

The legend lives on from Malaysia on down
To the depths of the Indian Ocean,
The loss of the airliner on March the eighth
Well, it caused a worldwide commotion.

The plane vanished with two hundred twenty-seven
And a captain and crew of a dozen,
The 239 they had run out of time
Leaving wives, children, parents, and cousins.

At 12:41 the doomed airplane took flight
And was cruising at 35,000,
At 1:21 the transponders went dead
Air traffic control asked, “What happened?”

They checked on the radar and checked it again,
They checked on the convection oven,
They checked with Vietnam and called China, too,
But its whereabouts remained unproven.

The last words received were said to be “Good night!”
Or they may have asked for a cheese pizza,
But officials soon said that the wrong words were spread
And instead might have said “Srebrenica.”

They might have stayed airborne for an hour or so
Or for 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 7
They might be alive – found an island to survive –
Or they might just all be up in Heaven.

They might have gone down in the Andaman Sea
Which is located near Thailand’s border,
Or they might have gone down in the Gulf of Thailand,
Quickly finding her was a tall order.

The search teams raced on and moved down to the south
And wound up in the Indian Ocean,
Their searching for weeks with no rest and no sleep
Was a sign of their stubborn devotion.

A month since has passed and it’s anyone’s guess
Just where in the hell they were going,
The searching goes on but it’s taking too long
To locate the poor waterlogged Boeing.

They might have flown over Kenya or Kuwait
Or Portugal or Tanzania,
Or Syria, Morocco, Mali or Spain
Or Kiribati or Grenada.

They might have hit turbulence over Qatar
Or Nepal, Jamaica, or Malta,
Or Saudi Arabia or Bangladesh
Or even the Rock of Gibraltar.

They might have crash-landed in Finland or France
Or Senegal, Sweden or Thailand,
Or Canada, Norway, or Slovenia
Or Greece or the Solomon Islands.

They might have been downed over Chinese airspace,
They might have been shot down by Russia,
They might have been shot down over Pennsylvania
In the quaint little town King of Prussia.

The legend lives on from Malaysia on down
To the depths of the Indian Ocean,
The loss of the airliner on March the eighth
Has earned ongoing worldwide devotion.
