(Stratford-upon-Avon, England) – William Shakespeare quietly celebrated his 450th birthday today.
The Folger Shakespeare Library had planned to publish a new Shakespeare book – containing an updated history of The Bard plus a one-act Shakespeare-like play – but the plans fell through.
“The book was to be written completely in iambic pentameter,” said a spokesman for the Folger Shakespeare Library, speaking on condition of anonymity. “We couldn’t handle writing all that text.”
“It’s nice that he can still find some cheer in a birthday celebration,” said a spokesman for the Globe Theater, speaking on condition of anonymity. “He’s been dead for 398 years and he just keeps going and going. And, of corpse, he doesn’t look a day over 425!”
