Profiles in Discouragement: Scott Baio

In honor of this week’s coronation of Donald Trump (R-NY) as the 2016 GOP candidate for POTUS Führer, FLATLINE is taking a look at some of the outstanding speakers and presenters at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland (temporarily re-named Nuremberg).

(July 18, 2016 — Nuremberg (formerly known as Cleveland), OH) – Actor Scott Baio will be one of the few attendees at this week’s Republican National Convention.

And if it weren’t for his rabid, right-wing views, it’s likely no one would even remember who he is.

The immensely-talented star worked from 1977-1984 on the set of Happy Days. He followed up this stellar body of work with Joanie Loves Chachi, which lasted an astounding 17 episodes.

“It’s ‘astounding’ because the show was just plain awful,” said an entertainment insider, speaking on condition of anonymity. “It’s widely considered to be one of the worst television shows in history.”

“It’s not surprising at all that the GOP would ask Baio to speak,” said a political scientist, speaking on condition of anonymity. “He’s the only guest at the convention whose body of work is actually used as a method of torture. In fact, he’s got two items routinely shown at Guantánamo Bay to coerce those pesky Islamic Fundamentalists. I understand that watching episodes of both Joanie Loves Chachi and Charles in Charge has driven some of them mad.

“And since Republicans have no desire to close the gulag, it might actually make sense to give Baio a job. It’s not like he can find work anywhere else.”

Since his career flamed out, Baio has taken on the role of right-wing Republican shrill, blindly following Trump and using Twitter to taunt and mock those with decency and common-sense:

  • In 2010, he mocked the unemployed and those on welfare when he posted, “Taxes are DONE … That should feed, house & provide medical for a few lazy non working people at my expense. Have a great Monday!”
  • Also in 2010, he went after President Obama (D-IL/Kenya) when he posted an extremely unflattering – some would say racist – photo of Michelle Obama with the caption, “WOW He wakes up to this every morning.”
  • In June 2016, Baio echoed one of Squirrelhead Donald’s talking points by criticizing Obama for not using the term “Islamic terror” and adding it means that “he’s dumb, he’s Muslim or he’s a Muslim sympathizer.” He went on to claim that Obama’s “end-game” is “to totally eliminate the United States.”
